- <B>If you cannot open a file:</B>

- <P><LI>Try again after a few minutes. Servers can become overloaded.
- <P><LI>Check that the URL was entered correctly.
- <P><LI>If you are using a proxy server, check that it is <A
- HREF="proxy.htm#TOP">configured</A> correctly.
- <P><LI>If other TCP/IP applications, such as e-mail and
- FTP, are not working, there may be a problem with your network connection.
- <P><LI>Replace the domain name in the URL with the IP address of the server. If
- this works, your DNS (domain name system) server may not be working.
- <P><LI>If you are using a modem, check that the baud rate is set to the
- manufacturer's specification.

- messages from Mosaic. Server messages are displayed in the current document
- window, not in a dialog box.
